Welcome to Assynt

Our cottages are in Assynt in the North West Highlands, a mile from the picturesque village of Kylesku, and 88 miles by road from Inverness.

We overlook Loch Glencoul with its unique geology and beauty and enjoy a backdrop that includes the magnificent mountain Quinag.

The Cottages

Our three cottages, Quinag, Glencoul and Glendhu are well-furnished and comfortable with log burning stoves and beautiful views over the Loch. They are set in three acres which includes a small woodland, landscaped grounds, a wildlife hide and access to our small lochside beach.

Activities

Unapool has a visitor centre for the North West Highlands UNESCO Geopark and is within an Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). A boat trip runs from Kylesku pier to Eas a’ Chual Aluinn, Britain’s highest waterfall and gives guests the chance to see the unique geology and wildlife of Loch Glencoul.

The spectacular sandy beaches at Sandwood Bay, Oldshoremore and Achmelvich are within easy reach as are the villages of Lochinver and Scourie.

Walkers can choose from low level coastal, woodland and lochside walks. The mountains of Quinag, Suilven, Ben More Assynt and Conival are nearby.

Visitors can also enjoy bird watching, fishing, photography, painting, cycling and on-site yoga tuition.

We are home to four pygmy goats called Cappo, Bart, Runa and Bella.

Wildlife

There is an abundance of wildlife. You can watch deer, seals, otters and birds from your cottage or from the hide on the shore and if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of porpoises, dolphins or a sea eagle.  Badgers and stoats are regular visitors to the garden along with the occasional pine marten.
